History
Building:
- Construction started in 1929 by Harry Andrews.
- Built by hand using stone and home made concrete block.
- Site obtained as from the aunt of one of the Knights of the Golden Trail.
- Based on French Norman Keep, usually claimed to have been designed at 1/5th scale, the castle is actually 1:1 scale and only the Ballroom is 1/5th scale
Sir Harry:
- Sir Harry Delos Andrews (b. April 7th 1890 - d. April 16th 1981)
- Served in WW1 as a Combat Nurse
- Declared dead after contracting spinal meningitis at Ft. Dix before deployment.
- Died from injuries sustained when pants caught on fire while burning trash on site.
- His ashes were spread onsite.
Legends
- The following were documented by Sir Harry(a)
- “Casper Poltergeist”: Spirit that gives shocks to those who misbehave in the castle.
- Knocks on outside doors, no tracks in the snow.
- A translucent white “egg shaped” spirit that resided in a willow tree by the castle. Has not been seen since tree died.
- A girl in a long dress that walked across the river to sit on top of the garage, not seen since a light has been installed outside.
- Viking spirit seen only a few times near the north side round part of building. (f)
- Norman knight seen at the front door (e) <possibly attached to artifacts in the castle?>
- Doors slamming ballroom bathroom that alerted caretakers to a septic system about to overflow. Saved the castle a lot of money from damages.
- An overhead light would swing in time to the live music during a party, and would abruptly stop when the music stopped. (or if it seemed to not like a particular song)
- May 1989 11-11:30pm: Sighting of woman in long billowy robe and long hair. Possible victim of moonshine distillery explosion in a cave near the castle.
- Winter 1987: Human sized shadow figure witnessed walking up spiral staircase near Sir Harry’s bedroom.
- Rumor of 2 children dying in a fire before Harry owned the land. Apparitions of a young boy (13) and small girl (7) seen in the castle, mostly seen inside (e)
- Out of place smells in the chapel area. ( c)
- SOAR paranormal saw shadows pass in front of lights at outer perimeter of the garden. Also knocked on tree in far end of garden and received knocks in reply coming from tree near back gate. (d)
- Chess pieces set up at night will be found to have moved on their own. (e)
- Overnight guests find things moved in other locations or otherwise ‘effected’ i.e. boy scouts found all of their shoes tied together ( c).
- People that try to steal things will find their shoes hanging from a light, (e).
- Things placed in Sir Harry’s cot will be found on the floor. (e)
- Mist\ectoplasm appear in photos taken in tower. (e)
- Harry made contact with psychic & care taker via EVP in dungeon. (e)
- “Casper” comes out after midnight, pounds on door, rings doorbell, gives shocks to those who misbehave. (f)
- KY paranormal team captured light on dimmer switch in chapel flipping to full brightness. Switch in camera view, never touched. (g)
- The rocking chair has been seen moving on it’s own (h)
- Harry seen at Chess table (h)
